About   K-Town Tech

K-Town Tech is a sole proprietor business created by myself, Patrick O'Meara, to provide a personalized, courteous and above all, professional service to the home computer service business in and around Kingston.

I have been involved with PCs going back to the early days of the Apple IIe and the IBM PC, and I have been a computer professional since 1995. My professional career started in Information Technology at CN Rail in Montreal, where I worked for over 6 years performing a variety of jobs in both the network infrastructure and the desktop computer support groups.

On the network infrastructure side, I was responsible for the design, implementation and support of the company's transcontinental DNS and DHCP network.

The primary benefit to me of this job was that it allowed me to learn extensively about the technical details of how the Internet functions. This gave me a the grounding necessary to allow me to confront any problem that a home or SOHO user may encounter with their computer and Internet access.

On the PC support side of the business, my duties were divided into two main responsibilities. As part of my "immediate" duties, I provided technical support to HelpDesk and 2nd-level support personnel. When I wasn't putting out fires, I was responsible for creating technical documentation for all corporate computer desktop software installations.

Presently I am certified by Microsoft on the Windows 2000 desktop platform (predecessor to Windows XP), as well as on the Windows 2000 Server platform in both server management and support as well as Microsoft Network Infrastructure design.

Now that Microsoft has brought out it's new generation of desktop and server operating systems, Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 respectively, it is my intention to re-certify myself on both of these platforms, as well as to pursue certifications in the updated Microsoft Network Infrastructure design stream. I plan to have the first of these certifications completed before the fall of 2011 and will post updates here on the About Us page.

Lastly, and to some of you reading this, most importantly, I will be only too pleased to provided you with references from some of my clients here in Kingston.
